Each individual airline, as stated by the British Airports Authority, are responsible for the safety, management and security of each passenger's bags.
Should your luggage go missing in transit you must report y it to the lost baggage desk at the airport. |

Many airlines suggest that lost luggage should be claimed for via travel insurance however, most travel insurers don't cover any valuables stowed in the hold of the aircraft.

| If your luggage is lost when on connecting flights you can claim against any of the airlines that carried it. Although the airlines will of course try and blame the other airline and may refuse to handle the claim. If so they are in breach of the Montreal Convention. |

| Airlines try and attach Limited Release Tags (LRT) to luggage like prams and buggies, musical instruments and sporting equipment as it can remove the liability from the airline. However, if an airline accepts any item as checked it must accept liability as stated by the Montreal Convention. |

| As set by the Montreal Convention a passenger's luggage is termed as 'delayed' for a period of 21 days after it is reported as missing. |

Others pay a set amount per day up to a maximum number of days. Whilst others won't make payments but will prefer to reimburse you on essential items on seeing receipts. |

| use this tips to help either track your baggage or, in the event of loss, help detail the items packed in your suitcase. |

- Make a list of what you've packed in your cases so it can be used as an inventory if it gets lost.
- Place a piece of paper with your contact details inside each suitcase and hand luggage so your bags can be identified as yours should the outside label fall off.

- Keep any receipts as much as you can for the things you've packed in your case.
- Place valuable goods like jewellery, cameras or mobile phones in hand luggage as otherwise they won't be covered by either the airline or some travel insurance policies.
